AIZAWL: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has lodged a formal complaint with the Mizoram People Forum (MPF), alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by a minister and an MLA, who also serves as adviser to the CM, during the ongoing campaign for the upcoming Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections. In a representation submitted to the MPF leadership, MPCC legal cell secretary H Lalmuankima urged the forum to take up the matter at the earliest, citing what he described as a ‘clear breach’ of the election code. The complaint stated that with the AMC elections approaching, political parties are intensifying their campaigns, which are currently at their peak. Against this backdrop, the MPCC alleged that on April 15 at 8pm, the ZPM minister and the ZPM MLA carried out campaign activities at the Saikhamakawn locality using official vehicles bearing designation plates.According to the complaint, the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the MPF local forum in Saikhamakawn, and a separate complaint has also been submitted to the State Election Commission. The MPF, a church sponsored independent election watchdog, plays a key role in monitoring adherence to electoral norms in the state and ensuring free and fair elections.
